Fats and oils comprise important renewable resources for all branches of the chemical industry. The January issue of EJLST is a special issue and presents 13 papers from the contributors of the 2nd workshop on Fats and oils as renewable feedstock for the chemical industry, which was held in March, 2009 in Emden, Germany.

This special issue brings review and research articles covering a variety of topics including chemical synthesis, biotechnological conversion, protein engineering and biocompatible detergents.
