Electroanalysis Special Issue: Biofuel Cells
Author: Edited by Evgeny Katz and Plamen Atanassov

Biofuel cells are primary sources of electrical energy extracted from organic materials using electrochemical processes catalyzed by biological substances (enzymes or whole microbial cells). Whereas regular fuel cells utilize inorganic catalysts like platinum to enhance the electrochemical processes, the biofuel cells are based on the bioelectrocatalysis in the presence of redox enzyme or whole biological cells (e.g. microbial cells).
The present special issue includes the most exciting novel results on enzyme-based and microbial biofuel cells representing the state-of-the-art in this challenging scientific and technological area.
