Leuven, BELGIUM — The three companies were among a number of biobased organisations, clearly demonstrating the power of innovation in the renewable chemical sector.

Capricorn Venture Partners is one of the major investors in Avantium (converting biomass into next-generation bioplastics, chemicals and fuels). The company was listed for the fifth consecutive year and was also named European Cleantech Company of the Year. FRX Polymers (producing environmentally-friendly flame-retardant plastics) and Green Biologics (who has developed environmentally-friendly microbial biotechnologies to produce bio-based butanol), were also named in the Cleantech 100 list.

Additionally, Avantium and FRX Polymers were two of the three companies on the ‘Lust List’, having received the most peer validations from the expert panel without any negative cases made against them.

Capricorn Venture Partners is proud of these companies for an impressive achievement. Jos B. Peeters, Managing Partner at Capricorn Venture Partners, said, “Being able to spot talent is essential for success in the cleantech sector. It is particularly rewarding for us when our portfolio companies’ success stories are recognised.” The annual selection of 100 top cleantech companies is made from 6,000 companies from 60 countries.
