Fat is all in the genes
- Scientists are a step closer to justifying the claim that energy-dense fatty acids represent nature’s ‘petroleum’. One group has rebuilt the fatty acid synthesis pathway from Escherichia coli in a test tube, while another has hijacked the pathway to produce a strain of E. coli that can produce biodiesel directly from plant biomass.
