From Biomass Qualification to Final Product with One Flexible Technology
The interest in biofuels as a renewable source of fuel is increasing. Critical to biofuels is the ability to measure the content of the biomass feedstock, the purity of final product and to monitor the entire process in between. Needed is a flexible, reliable technique that it easy to use and can shift with current or future needs.
The Corona® charged aerosol detector with HPLC provides quantitative results for any non-volatile analyte, with or without a chromophore. Response is independent of chemical structure, simplifying methods development. The Corona detector’s ability to use normal and reversed phase chromatography, as well as gradient, lets you customize each analysis.
Assays have been developed to analyze biodiesel for glycerol and mono-, di-, and triacylglycerols in one analysis with analytes grouped by class. Using the same detector, you can measure ions in biodiesel, profile algal oils, palm oil, or any type oil, and analyze biomass for oligosaccharides or simple sugars.

Industrial Engagement Co-ordinator – Integrated Biorefining Research and Technology Club
BBSRC would like to invite tenders for the provision of a coordinator to engage with companies and help with the delivery of the Integrated Biorefining Research and Technology Club (IBTI Club).
The IBTI Club was launched by BBSRC in partnership with EPSRC, ten companies and the Biosciences KTN in recognition of the need to invest in research to underpin the sustainable production of chemicals, materials, and fuels from bio-based feedstocks. Coordination of the industrial membership and club activities is key to the club meeting its aims. The Industrial Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for disseminating information about the club to the industrial community, support networking within the club, communicate an industrial perspective to the research programme, and identify opportunities for expanding the club’s network.
The Industrial Engagement Coordinator will have proven leadership skills and experience in strategic management in industry, understand the UK industrial science base, and the ability to engage effectively with researchers.
For further information on this opportunity and information on how to tender, please contact Jonathan Smith on 01235 446394 or email Jonathan.Smith@ssc.rcuk.ac.uk
Closing Date: 11am on Wednesday, 21 October 2009
