Published online: Mar 13, 2008

Geographical region Europe
Subject Production of 1,3-propanediol
Published date Feb 27, 2008
Title Method for preparing 1,3-propanediol by using glycerine as the by-product of the biological diesel oil
Patent Application Number EP1892300 A1
Assignee Univ Tsinghua, China
Relevance An integrated and cost effective process for the production of biodiesel and conversion of glycerol into 1, 3-propanediol.
Type of claims Publication
Overview This patent discloses a cost effective method of conversion of glycerol into 1,3-propenediol. The method improves the utilization and production efficiency of both raw materials and biodiesel hence greatly reducing the production cost. The method also produces 2,3-butanediol, lactic acid, acetic acid, ethanol or succinic acid as co-products. The process includes, A) inoculating a 1,3-propanediol-producing bacterial strain in a seed culture medium containing crude glycerol, B) adding the seed culture to a fermentation medium containing crude glycerol and C) fermenting, isolating and purifying 1,3-propanediol.
