LONDON -- Emission & Power Solutions, Plc, have announced that it has entered into a Sponsored Research Agreement (SRA) with the University of Maryland to develop commercial prototypes of its patented sensor technology. Eric Wachsman, Ph.D., the inventor of the technology and Director of the University's Energy Research Center, will lead the research project. Dr. Wachsman stated "These sensors are unique in their ability to selectively measure NOx and CO and I am glad to be able to translate years of research into a commercial product."
EPS holds the exclusive license to develop and market the novel solid-state sensors that selectively detect and measure combustion gases such as CO and NOx. These small, simple sensors are highly sensitive to combustion gases and can be readily combined on a single chip to provide a multifunctional sensor. The sensor can detect parts per million levels of CO and NOx and may be used to improve combustion control, as well as meet emissions monitoring regulations, including the impending on-board diagnostics regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency.
EPS Chairman Erik Ulsteen stated "EPS is committed to developing innovative products that improve fuel economy and performance while reducing emissions and maintenance of diesel and gasoline engines. We believe this novel technology for controlling and measuring emissions can be a disruptive, breakthrough product in the marketplace. We are very enthusiastic about working with Dr. Wachsman's team at the University of Maryland and delivering prototypes to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the near term."
