| Relevance | Method for producing bioethanol from pretreated lignocellulosic plant raw materials by fermentation. |
| Type of claims | Publication |
| Overview | This patent discloses a process for producing bioethanol from lignocellulosic plant raw materials such as stems, bark etc., or co-products from industrial processes including wheat straw, rice, barley etc., by fermentation. The process further involves pretreating the lignocellulosic plant raw materials by solvolysis in an acid/aqueous medium to separate biopolymers including cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignins which on hydrolysis and fermentation yield bioethanol. Advantageously, the process ensures a higher industrial performance regardless of the plant nature and provides a new valorization of annual plants. The process comprises, A) destructuring the lignocellulosic plant raw material by placing it in a mixture of formic acid and water at a desired temperature and atmospheric pressure, B) pretreating the lignocellulosic plant raw material to obtain a pretreated material, C) enzymatic hydrolysis of the pretreated material to produce a hydrolysis product and D) alcoholic fermentation of the hydrolysed product to produce bioethanol. |
