Method for generating biogas

Published online: Nov 16, 2010

Geographical region Europe
Subject Generation of biogas
Published date Oct 20, 2010
Title Method for generating biogas
Patent Application Number EP2240590 A1
Assignee Agratec AG, Germany
Relevance Process for generating biogas from organic materials by anaerobic digestion using microorganisms in a fermenter.
Type of claims Publication
Overview This patent discloses a process for generating biogas from fiber-rich organic materials such as silage preserved whole plants by physical-mechanical and anaerobic digestion using microorganisms in a fermenter. The process further involves microwave pretreatment of the biomass for increasing anaerobically degradable components and killing harmful bacteria and fungi that breach the fermentation process. Advantageously, the process involves increased and accelerated biogas production with high specific gas yield. The process comprises, A) pretreating the fiber-rich organic material by microwave irradiation to obtain treated biomass, B) anaerobically fermenting the treated biomass by microorganisms in a fermenter to produce biogas, C) post treating the fermentation residue for anaerobic digestion and D) loading the post treated biomass in the fermenter for further biogas production.
